The Japanese martial art of Aikido integrates self-defense skills with a philosophy of non-violence and compassion. The graceful, flowing movements of Aikido emphasize the use of leverage and blending with the attack rather than blocking and punching. In a typical Aikido technique, the student evades the attack and then uses a dynamic throw or immobilizing hold.
CLASSES FOR 5-6 YEAR OLD CHILDREN: This class emphasizes the playful development of balance, flexibility and physical fitness through Aikido related games. Games and movement build confidence, focus energy, and prepare the child for the greater technical emphasis of the classes for older children. Class meets once a week, on Thursdays at 4pm (See the full class Schedule).
CLASSES FOR 7-2 YEAR OLD CHILDREN: Children can attend up to three classes each week (See the full class Schedule). Wednesday classes focus on conflict resolution and anti-bullying strategies through games and role play in addition to technical Aikido training. Each class provides fun, focused and safe Aikido training in a nurturing environment. A typical children’s class includes physical conditioning, fun games and methods to cultivate inner calm, especially under stress. Children discover how to apply Aikido’s philosophy of peaceful conflict resolution to their daily lives.
