Children's classes meet Wednesdays 4:00pm-5:00 and Saturdays
from 9:30am-10:30
A typical children's class integrates warm-ups, basic techniques and
aikido games. Students learn how to roll and fall safely; aikido related
games teach coordination, flexibility, strength and teamwork. Older
children learn verbal conflict resolution, street awareness and
self-defense.
Children who practice Aikido learn how to:
be disciplined yet have fun at the same time.
gain confidence.
handle bullies -- not become one.
relax in stressful situations.
focus and concentrate.
coordinate their minds and bodies.
defend themselves.
sit quietly.
fall and roll safely.
listen attentively and take responsibility.
cooperate with others.
remain in balance physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
"Avoidance of violence is the heart of aikido. Children
learn not how to fight, but how to cooperate; how to resolve conflict in a
positive way; how to make friends and avoid
making enemies. They learn self-confidence, self-respect and the path to
self-discovery. In a world increasingly filled with stress and conflict,
these lessons are survival tools for children of all
ages."

"Mr. Pincus is a gifted martial artist who has spent much of his life studying
Aikido and who happens to love and understand children. He creates an environment that is both
exciting and safe, and challenges each child to succeed at their personal highest level by taking
a deep personal interest in every child. Some children progress to considerable Aikido expertise,
most increase flexibility, strength and attention, but all have fun. Martial techniques,
exercises and games are all served up in a strict traditional Japanese environment with warmth,
intimacy, and a mischievous smile."
